Clean Defrag

How to complete a Clean Defrag

How to do a clean defrag

*Warning, you can only turn off the page file if you have
more than 512MB of RAM
Doing a clean defrag is a good way to optimize your HDDs or RAID configuration. In this segment, we will explain in clear terms how to complete this task. First we'll have to turn off the "Page File", this is the virtual memory your OS sets aside on your HDD for use with large applications and background applications. You can only attempt this if you have more than 512MB of onboard RAM. If you have less, skip this part.
  • Go into Control Panel then double click the system icon. Choose advanced then settings button. In this new window you'll see at the bottom of that page a button to enter the page file section. At this point choose "No page file" See below

Your system will need to restart to make this change take effect. Now it is time to turn off the "System Restore".
  • Go into control panel again, then the system and then choose the system restore tab. On this page you'll find the option to turn SR off. Do this and exit the windows. (One note: notice how we have changed the size of space system restore reserves for use for this feature. We highly recommend this.

Enter the defrag program and do your defrag. This will push all files and data to the front of the drive for faster access. Now go back and restore your page file and turn you system restore on and your all set. It was that easy.
